One of countless homes destroyed by massive earthquakes in Lombok, Indonesia.
Last month we presented an opportunity in Laos, after thousands of people were affected when a dam collapsed and wiped out numerous villages. As a result of your prayers and generous support, our co-workers have been able to help hundreds of suffering people, and long-term plans are being formed to enable people to move on with their lives. At the bottom of this message is a picture of one of the "tent communities" our colleagues set up in Laos to help the flood survivors.
This month we are responding to another disaster — people on the Indonesian island of Lombok have been struck by a series of more than 30 earthquakes and aftershocks in recent weeks, which have killed hundreds of people and left tens of thousands homeless. The most severe quake left more than 460 people dead on August 5th.
Asia Harvest supports many Indonesian evangelists living on nearby islands, and they quickly sprung into action, mobilizing relief teams, including doctors, to assess the best way to help. Their initial relief efforts include providing care packets containing a blanket, 3 kg of rice, 5 packets of noodles and milk. Each packet costs $12, and our colleagues have identified 1,000 families in 10 villages who will need help for weeks to come. As always, the love of God being shown will be coupled with the message of eternal salvation in Jesus Christ to all who place their trust in Him.
If you would like to support the rescue and aid efforts, we invite you to do so online via our Persecution & Relief Fund, or by mailing a check to one of our Asia Harvest offices. 100 percent of donations marked "Lombok earthquake" will be applied directly to this need.
Please pray for the survivors of this disaster, and for the kingdom of God in this unreached part of Indonesia. Thank you for your prayers and support.
