2018 Annual Report – Advancing Without Fear

“Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good? But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. Do not fear their threats; do not be frightened. But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord” (1 Peter 3:13-15).

“Do not fret because of those who are evil or be envious of those who do wrong; for like the grass they will soon wither, like green plants they will soon die away. Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart” (Psalm 37:1-4).

“Anxiety frequently manifests itself in ungodly concern about provision, performance, or reputation, and appears to be rooted in incomplete knowledge, lack of control over circumstances, or failure to take an eternal perspective on things.” - Baker’s Evangelical Dictionary

At the end of each year we set aside time to seek the Lord, thanking him for the year that just passed and asking Him for guidance and blessing for the new year ahead. This year, it seemed as if the Lord was telling us to be free from fear in 2018, and to continue to serve Him wholeheartedly.

The Oxford Dictionary defines worry as “the state of being anxious and troubled about actual or potential problems.” Naturally speaking, we have some reasons to worry. Many of those we serve with are under massive pressure from governments throughout the region, and over the years a total of more than 50 believers in ministries we have worked with have been killed for their faith. Pressure is coming from different directions, especially with the rapid increase of invasive technology.

Rather than looking at what could go wrong, however, the Lord wants us to look to Him in faith, because fear and faith cannot exist together, and the stronger of the two always kills the other. Our job is to set our eyes on Jesus and His kingdom, for “without faith it’s impossible to please God” (Hebrews 11:6).

In the past year we have noticed that many Christians are becoming increasingly discouraged and anxious, as evil in this world intensified. Believers know that the Lord warned, “Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved” (Matthew 24:12-13). Note that Jesus didn’t say “their wickedness”, but “Because of the increase of wickedness”. As believers, we should be careful not to watch too much news, because it’s easy for our hearts to be hardened by the evil around us.

It’s no secret that we live in a sick and failing world. Even unbelievers want to improve the society they live in. In frustration they protest and condemn political leaders, but people will never be able to obtain true joy and peace until the Prince of this world (Satan) is overthrown. Until then, true Christians should prepare for an intense daily struggle for our faith, holiness and integrity, for the Bible warns us: “Woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has gone down to you! He is filled with fury, because he knows that his time is short” (Revelation 12:12).

Instead of becoming fearful, however, great encouragement is given to followers of Jesus, for the same passage exhorts us: “They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death. Therefore rejoice, you heavens and you who dwell in them!” (Revelation 12:11-12).

Indeed, the Prince of this world will soon be overthrown, and will be replaced forever by the true King of Kings, who will rule and reign over the nations from His throne in Jerusalem.

As we present our Annual Report on the various projects and activities of Asia Harvest last year, we want to remind you that the devil is not in control of this world’s timetable. The Living God is in control and always has been!

The Lord Jesus is continuing to bring in His harvest from among the nations of the world. Tens of thousands of lost people found salvation in Jesus today, and tens of thousands more will be saved tomorrow, and every day. Jesus’ kingdom is expanding and He is the Victor! His timetable is right on target, and one day when “the full number of Gentiles” has come in (Romans 11:25), God will close the curtain on this sick and sorry age. Until then, we are called to patiently endure, and to “encourage one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching” (Hebrews 10:25).

2018 Annual Report

In the remainder of this newsletter we present our 2018 Annual Report, detailing the help Asia Harvest provided to the Body of Christ throughout Asia last year.

It has been a privilege to serve the Lord for another year, and we feel greatly blessed to be a link in a chain that has resulted in many people coming to know Him. Last year, hundreds of thousands more believers were strengthened in their faith after receiving God’s Word through our Bible projects, and the more than 1,000 Asian evangelists we support led a reported 76,000 people to faith in Christ among hundreds of unreached people groups.

For over 25 years our strategy has been to operate with as few overhead expenses as possible, so that the maximum resources are placed in the hands of the frontline workers—the many Asian Christians we are honored to assist and serve. We thank each person who prayed for and supported our work last year. Without your vital partnership none of these things would have occurred.

From the time of Asia Harvest’s inception in the late 1980s, we have always strived to be transparent in the area of finances, and our annual financial statements have been available to anyone upon request. Now, we have taken the extra step of having our finances independently audited each year by a respected firm. These reports will be freely available on our website.

We thank God that last year we were able to send out substantially more project money than we received! Our operating costs are minimal, and are fully covered by general, non-project donations, and from income generated by book sales. That means that 100% of all project donations are used exactly as specified.

Asia Harvest Projects Supported in 2017

Asian Workers' Fund

Partnering with Pioneer Asian Evangelists

Because of your prayers and partnership we ended 2017 supporting 1,179 Asian missionaries, serving among 845 unreached people groups. A reported 76,674 people experienced God’s salvation last year.

The Asian Workers’ Fund provides support to Asian evangelists who are working among people groups that have never heard the gospel. By the end of 2017 we were privileged to support 1,179 evangelists among 845 unreached groups. These workers encounter many hardships and persecutions, but have persevered and are now seeing breakthroughs among many groups.

In 2017, those we support through the Asian Workers’ Fund led 76,674 people to salvation in Jesus Christ (an average of 65 per worker). More than 240,000 conversions have been reported since this project commenced. Hallelujah! This is even more remarkable considering most of the workers serve in some of the darkest and most unreached areas of Asia, including among numerous Muslim, Hindu and Buddhist peoples.

The Asian Workers’ Fund is constantly expanding and new workers are being recruited. We invite you to support one or more Asian missionaries with a gift of $25 per month each. A laminated prayer card is sent to every supporter of this project.

China Bible Fund

Equipping China’s Christians with God’s Word

There remains a critical shortage of Bibles in China today because of the massive growth of churches in rural areas. Tens of millions of house church Christians are still unable to access God’s Word. Our Bibles are distributed to all parts of China, helping establish new believers in the faith and adding fuel to the revival that continues to burn throughout the world’s most populated country. Each full Bible costs just $1.80 to print and deliver.

Since 2000, we have printed and distributed more than 10.8 million Bibles to house churches in China, with 563,087 in 2017 alone. This equates to 1,543 Bibles every day, 64 per hour, or one full Bible every 56 seconds throughout the year. Each one is a miracle. Thank you for praying and giving.

Asian Bible Fund

Providing Bibles to Asia’s Christians

Current Total: 818,344 Bibles printed in 95 different languages. Each Bible costs an average of $2.70 to print and deliver.

Asia is home to many ethnic groups where people have been prevented from accessing God’s Word, sometimes for decades. The Asian Bible Fund provides the Scriptures in numerous languages throughout Southeast Asia, the Indian subcontinent, and elsewhere.

Please pray for our project and all those who are involved with providing God’s Word to the precious Christians of Asia. In 2017 we printed 99,078 Bibles through the Asian Bible Fund. We were privileged to provide God’s Word in the following languages:

Assamese, Bengali, Bhadrawahi, Bilaspuri, Bugun, Chambeali, Chin Haka, Dogri, English, Gaddi, Gujarati, Haryanvi, Hindi, Kangri, Kannada, Kurumba, Mandeali, Marathi, Nepali, Oriya, Pahari Kullu, Pahari Kulvi, Pahari Mahasu, Punjabi, Sakachep, Tagin, Tamil, Telugu, Tutsa.

Bless the Children Fund

Reaching and Discipling Asia’s Children

Your prayers and generous support has so far impacted an estimated 133,916 children for Jesus Christ throughout Asia, with multitudes being exposed to the Gospel for the first time.

The Bless the Children Fund introduces children to Jesus in India, China, Vietnam, Indonesia, Nepal, and other Asian countries. Activities include printing and distributing Christian literature designed for children, funding Sunday school training classes, providing free surgeries for those with special needs, and generally doing whatever it takes to lift children out of spiritual and physical poverty.

The fruitfulness of this project has been tremendous.

Thank you for praying and partnering with us to bless the children of Asia!

The Rohingya

Over the past year, you may have heard about the plight of the Rohingya refugees in western Myanmar (Burma).

The Rohingya have been the target of ‘ethnic cleansing’ as the Burmese military attempts to drive them out of the country. Hundreds of Rohingya villages have been burnt to the ground, men and boys mercilessly slaughtered, and women and girls viciously raped.

Is there any hope for the Rohingya people? YES! In fact, while many aid agencies have been helping their physical needs, for the past three years we have been helping a small group of Rohingya Christians, who met the Lord Jesus in a refugee camp. The Holy Spirit gave them a burden to take the Gospel to their own people, and although most organizations don’t think there are any Rohingya Christians, we can share that they have led more than 130 Rohingya to repentance and faith in Christ!

Many lives have been transformed and the Good News is spreading that Jesus is the only true hope in this world. Please pray for the precious Rohingya Christians.

The group of Rohingya evangelists are among the hundreds of Asian missionaries we support through the Asian Workers' Fund. We invite you to join us as we help them take the Gospel to the unreached peoples of Asia.

At the beginning of 2024, we give thanks for the opportunity to once again serve the Lord Jesus Christ in Asia. We greatly appreciate the prayers, encouragement and support of those Christians around the world who have been led by the Holy Spirit to join hands with us. Together, we are helping many who have never heard the Gospel become aware of the incredible salvation the Son of God has won for them.

Over the years, after many church leaders and believers have read our reports about revival in China and other parts of Asia they have asked us to share the “secret” to how they too can experience “real New Testament Christianity.” Invariably, when we delve further, we find that what they mean by New Testament Christianity is the record in the early chapters of Acts, like the passage quoted above. While such experiences are tremendously exhilarating, are they the sum total of New Testament Christianity?
