Nepal Update: Help Is on the Way

Friends,

Thank you for your prayers and support for the people of Nepal, even as the official death count rises to over 5,000.

Thanks to the generous support of many, we have already sent $40,000 to Nepal, but much more will be needed as areas near the epicenter are visited for the first time.

Our coworkers on the ground in Nepal have come up with a specific course of action to help the worst affected. Earlier today they wrote:

"I am writing to you with a heavy heart. The remote areas that have defined the mission have been catastrophically hit by the affects of the earthquake. Initial reports indicate close to 90% destruction with widespread loss of life. Many of the projects and infrastructure that we have worked so diligently to build over the years has been dealt a significant blow.

What remains intact is our resolve to see Christ exalted amongst these remote communities. We have an unprecedented opportunity to unfold God's pervasive grace upon areas where hearts are now open and they are crying for help. We are positioned for success through the decades of community building that now affords us the relational grid to deliver both natural and eternal results.

An "air team" is boarding helicopters by the end of this week to meet with remote community leaders and further assess the damage. Plans are underway to dispatch a "ground team" in an effort to reach these communities by foot. It is no exaggeration to expect up to 3-4 weeks of walking over landslides to reach these areas. We will be commandeering hundreds of donkeys to help transport crucial supplies including tarps, rope, portable water filtration systems, medicine and food. Once on site, emergency health care will be provided along with crucial aid. This will be just the beginning.

We need your help more than ever. Please prayerfully consider this opportunity for exalting Christ in the hearts of unreached people groups that have remained resistant to the gospel until today. Now is the time to hoist the flag of God's kingdom at the top of the world. We are giving our everything to capitalize on this opportunity and I ask you to join us in the same measure."

We are thankful for the many people who have been praying for the people groups of Myanmar as we work through our Operation Myanmar profiles. The recent massive 7.7 earthquake has added untold misery to the people of Myanmar. Estimates are that tens of thousands of people have been killed and up to 3 million have been displaced after their homes were destroyed. The epicenter of the quake was in the Sagaing Region next to Chin State, where many of our prayer requests for Chin and Tangshang tribes have been targeted in recent months. Hundreds of thousands of strong Christians live in these regions.

The Golden Triangle area, where the countries of Laos, Thailand and Myanmar meet, is notorious for being one of the main drug-producing hubs in the world. The same waterways are now being used to transport God’s Word, helping to meet the great demand for Bibles for the thousands of families who are being radically transformed by the Spirit of God.
