House church revival in Xiushan, Yunyang and Wanxian counties meant that 50% of the population in each place were Christians by 1992: Peter Xu Yongze, personal communication (October 2003). Wanxian County now makes up just one part of the Wanzhou District. Although it remains the house church center for Chongqing Muncipality, the overall percentage of Christians in Wanzhou has decreased due to an influx of non-Christian migrants and an outflow of believers moving to other parts of China in search of work.

Specific figures for Wanzhou District are not available, but the whole Wanzhou Diocese had 50,000 Catholics in 1997: UCA News, 14 April 1997). This figure was repeated in UCAN (2 September 2002). Charbonnier, Guide to the Catholic Church in China (1997), p.237, stated there were 70,000 Catholics in the Wanxian Diocese in 1997. There are 10,000 Catholics just in the Longbao area near Wanzhou: UCA News (31 October 1997).
